Roman Pulanski born to survive?

Here's a man who survived the Halocaust, the Manson murders, and getting jailed for a very long time for minor sexual allegations..but yet still remains a five star director maybe best known for Rosemary's Baby. Why didn't this man get more media attention, I mean you have Charlie Sheen who had full media attention for crap.
