Ever use Coke in Barbecue?

I have a recipe for slow cooked barbecue chicken and it calls for barbecue sauce and coca-cola. I have never used coke in barbecue sauce, and am kind of worried (despite what the recipe says!) anyone use coke in barbecue? Is it good?? I want to use it but am afraid it will be funky tasting
